When it comes to writing a resume, it is important that you put your best foot forward and highlight the skills that you have that make you stand out from the rest of the applicants. Below are some tips to help you write the best resume you can.Hand with Pen Proofreading a Resume by Laptop

  1. Know the resume’s purpose – many people get confused and think the point of the resume is to land a job. Actually the point of your resume is to land you an interview. Make sure your resume doesn’t come across as desperate.
  2. Elaborate on your strengths -  when you write a resume, don’t just list your strengths, include examples about why you have these skills.
  3. Include keywords – many companies use an applicant tracking system (ATS) when it comes to handling resumes. Make sure to include the right keywords in your resume to help you rank properly in the system. But don’t keyword stuff, when a real person looks over your resume, they may reject your application because of the keyword stuffing.
  4. Use effective job titles – your job titles speak volumes about you. Use ones that are not only accurate but make you sound important. An example of a bad title would be secretary, a better title would be administrative assistant.
  5. Proofread – this is the most important part of reviewing your resume. If the person reviewing your resume spots a mistake, it is highly unlikely you will get an interview, much less a job. Make sure to proofread your resume multiple times to make sure there are no errors.
